SCR posts record performance across sectors

South Central Railway (SCR) has completed track renewal of 643 km during the current financial year up to December. In addition, 24 manned level crossings were eliminated, while 39 road underbridges (RuBs) and 19 road overbridges (RoBs) were constructed to enhance both road and rail safety.

Addressing railway personnel after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day, General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) had been commissioned over a total length of 435 route kilometres — the highest-ever progress achieved by any zonal railway so far. As part of modern signalling initiatives, 14 electronic interlocking systems, three block proving axle counters and nine new intermediate block signalling systems were commissioned.

The zone registered a gross originating revenue of ₹15,579 crore between April and December 2025, reflecting an increase of 4% over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Freight loading crossed a record 100 million tonnes in the shortest-ever period of just 257 days during the current fiscal and is on course to achieve the highest-ever freight loading for any financial year, the general manager said.

During the same period, the zone saw footfall of about 216 million passengers, generating revenue of ₹4,611 crore — an increase of 8% over the previous fiscal. Infrastructure works completed during the year include 30 km of doubling, 115 km of tripling, and 2 km of bypass line. Doubling works were carried out between Panyam and Nandyal under the Guntur-Guntakal doubling project, and between Basar and Navipet as part of the Mudkhed-Medchal doubling project.

Third-line works were undertaken across various sections of the Vijayawada-Kazipet, Kazipet-Balharshah and Vijayawada-Gudur tripling projects. All these projects are expected to be completed within the current financial year, he disclosed.

SCR has also commissioned 9.781 MWp of solar panels, harnessing solar power to a total capacity of 23.2 MWp. With 28 new stations receiving star ratings, the total number of star-rated stations has increased to 61. Scrap sales yielded ₹447 crore during the first nine months of the year — 25% higher than the proportionate target — he added.
