7-year-old Maharashtra boy dies after repeated assault by mother’s live-in partner

A seven-year-old boy died during treatment at Mumbai’s KEM Hospital after he was allegedly assaulted by his mother’s live-in partner in Maharashtra’s Ambernath. Police said the accused saw the child as an obstacle to his relationship with the boy’s mother and will now face a murder charge following the child’s death.

According to investigators, the 25-year-old accused was living with the boy’s mother in a live-in relationship after she separated from her husband. The woman had been staying with her youngest son at the accused’s house in Ambernath, while her two elder children lived with their father.

Police said the accused allegedly viewed the child as an obstacle to his relationship with the woman because the boy slept alongside his mother. Investigators claim that the child had been subjected to repeated physical abuse while his mother was away at work and had previously complained about the assaults to her. Police said the woman had warned the accused, but the alleged abuse continued.

On July 17, the accused allegedly assaulted the child with a rolling pin and repeatedly kicked him, causing severe internal injuries.

The boy was first taken to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar before being shifted to Sion Hospital and later referred to Mumbai’s KEM Hospital as his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

Police said the accused initially tried to mislead investigators by claiming that unidentified persons had assaulted the child. However, inconsistencies in his statement prompted further questioning, during which investigators uncovered the alleged sequence of events.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kale and Senior Police Inspector Shabbir Syed said the accused remains in custody and that the case will now be prosecuted under charges including murder. Police said further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the incident.
