In a week-long special drive against drunken driving, the Bengaluru Traffic Police booked 699 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol after checking more than 41,000 vehicles across Bengaluru. The enforcement campaign, conducted from May 25 to May 31, also targeted overspeeding, taking the total number of cases registered during the drive to 1,086.

The operation was carried out by personnel from all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by reckless driving.

During the anti-drunk driving drive, police checked 41,033 vehicles and registered 699 cases against violators. A total fine of ₹2.33 lakh was collected.

In the simultaneous crackdown on overspeeding, police registered 387 cases and collected ₹1.56 lakh in fines.

Traffic police said that the special enforcement drive was aimed at curbing the twin threats of drunken driving and overspeeding, both of which are among the leading causes of road accidents in the city.

A senior official said “similar drives will continue in the coming weeks to ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations and enhance commuter safety.”
