5 Things You Should Know This Week – March 2nd

Southie Film Festival is Saturday

The first-ever Southie Film Festival is set to hit the neighborhood on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, and it’s shaping up to be a fun day celebrating local talent. Hosted at Seapoint Bar & Grille (367 E 8th Street), this chill, in-person festival will showcase independent films from Boston-area filmmakers from 3PM to 10PM. Think curated film blocks throughout the afternoon and evening, with cocktail hours in between so guests can grab a drink, chat bout the films, and mix and mingle with the creatives behind them. An 🎟 All-Day Pass is just $20 and gives film lovers full access to the entire lineup. Pop in for one block, stay for the whole day, or hang at the bar during cocktail hour — it’s totally up to you. As a first-year fest, organizers are promising big energy, a packed house, raffles, and plenty of great films. Grab your friends and support local filmmakers. Get your tickets here!

Let the Games Begin: South Boston Citizens Association Events

South Boston Citizens’ Association, President Tom McGrath is pleased to announce through the generous sponsorships of Comcast, City of Boston, Mass Bay Credit Union, Liberty Bay Credit Union, BCYF Community Centers, Peter Welch’s Gym, John Tunney of South Boston Bowl and South Boston Youth Hockey, it will once again host the athletic events throughout the community over the first 2 weeks of March. On Monday Night, March 2nd, the basketball free-throw competition will be held at the Tynan Community Center Gym, hosted by John Lydon and the Tynan staff. Registration starts at 6 pm. Boys and  Girls ages 8-17 are encouraged to participate—trophies to winners.  You can get the full roundup here!

Office Hours with Mayor Michelle Wu

Friday, February 27, 2026 – Mayor Michelle Wu and the Community Engagement Cabinet announced the first-ever Office Hours, a family-friendly one-stop opportunity for Boston residents from across the city to connect directly with the Mayor, City services, and department staff to have their questions or concerns answered in real time. The event will take place on Thursday, March 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Roxbury.  Get the details here.
