A 17-year-old boy drowned Sunday night in a Fall River pond.
The teen was at South Watuppa Pond with two other juveniles when two of them entered the water to swim to a floating dock, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. “The decedent struggled while in the water and did not return to shore,” authorities said.
Fall River police and State Police responded to the pond after a 911 call at about 9:30 p.m. They were unable to locate the teen during an initial search. A State Police helicopter and dive team also responded, and the dive team located the teen at about 11:35 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Foul play is not suspected, authorities said, but the incident remains under investigation.
