15-year-old ‘abandoned’ boy appeals to police for family reunification

A 15-year-old boy, reportedly abandoned by both his biological and adoptive parents, submitted a petition to the Public Grievances Redressal System (PGRS) at the District Police Headquarters in Guntur on Monday (June 29, 2026), urging the police to reunite him with his family.

The boy, a native of Nallapadu in Guntur, is studying in the ninth standard. He told Additional Superintendent of Police Hanumantha Rao that he was living with his parents and two brothers, but in 2013, his uncle and aunt, who had two daughters, requested his parents to allow them to adopt him, as they did not have any sons.

“When I was one year old, my biological parents gave me up for adoption to my uncle and aunt. Now, my adoptive parents are not taking care of me. I returned to my biological parents and explained my situation, but they also refused to take me back into their family. Now, both sets of parents have abandoned me and thrown me out onto the streets. I am living like an orphan,” the boy reportedly told the police.

The ASP referred the petition to the Nallapadu police and directed them to look into the grievance from a humanitarian perspective and render justice to the boy.

Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday (June 30), Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal stated that the police would conduct counselling for the parents. In the meantime, the boy would be admitted to a Child Care Institution (CCI) for care and protection. “The police will try to convince his parents and take measures for the continuation of his studies,” Mr. Jindal said.
