Kyle Archie Knight | ‘Heart Boxers’ (2026) | From the series Cruising for a Bruising | 2022 – ongoing
For this selection of 15 photographs, I have chosen a curation that spans, essentially, the entirety of my
practice from 2022, when I began to take myself seriously as an artist and researcher, to present day. I hope
that some artistic growth is evident within the selection and corresponding years.
As someone who typically works on one series at a time, I found curating my catalogue a fun and interesting
challenge in collating multiple series together, if only to see how each singular work from a series spoke to
the next. I think that they are all having a nice dialogue amongst themselves. There is some repetition as I
continue to explore ideas I believe in, and due to the fact that as a photographic researcher, my photographs
are usually evidence of something.
My love and adoration for colour is evident within this selection – that much is obvious. But it’s my hope that
along with this, my sense of humour, sincerity and worldview is evident within subsequent works. One of my
favourite writers, Joan Didion, once said, “I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at,
what I see and what it means.” While I certainly use the act of writing in the same vein, it is through
photography that I truly work through, understand and exhibit my inner most thoughts and feelings. So,
thank you for taking the time to view me so openly, I hope you like what you see.
