Sydney FC’s decision to part ways with Head Coach Ufuk Talay and appoint Patrick Kisnorbo until the end of the season has certainly got people talking and it was a hot topic on this week’s episode of Total A-Leagues.
The Sky Blues opted to call time on Talay’s near two-and-a-half year tenure on Tuesday following a frustrating run of results which has seen them lose five of their last 10 matches, including Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle.

As such, the Total A-Leagues team of Sydney Morning Herald Reporter Vince Rugari and former A-Leagues duo Tommy Oar and Daniel McBreen discussed Sydney FC’s big coaching call on this week’s show.
“It’s a huge, huge call at this time of the season,” said former Socceroo Oar when asked for his take on the decision.

“Obviously (they’re) still in fifth place and you know their season is still alive for them, but the writing has been on the wall.
“It’s been a really difficult month and obviously we spoke about it on the show last week, kind of all the murmurings about Ufuk Talay potentially stepping across to the Wanderers, it makes me wonder if that is going to happen now.
“For them to pull the trigger at this moment makes me wonder if they caught wind of something maybe being signed there, or something like that.
“But you know, for PK to come in, it’s going to be a huge adjustment for Sydney FC, and time will tell if it’s a good call.”
Reflecting on Talay’s time in charge at Sydney FC, former Central Coast Mariners striker and A-Leagues Champion McBreen added: “When it (Talay’s style of football) worked, it looked fantastic.
“When it didn’t work, it was like, and we saw them last year, be very ‘we’re going to go press and be open at the back, and they were copping goals. Th en they tempered that because of the players.
“The players they’ve had; it’s been hit and miss. We’ve seen plenty of foreign players come in. Some have been okay, some have been a disaster.
He added: “Some have been, I think, relied on too much when you think there’s other players that could do that role, and I know you’ve been big on that, Tommy as well, but look, it’s mixed.
“I think with Uffy, he turned them around and started to do okay. And then it’s, it’s been, it’s been this ride all the way along. And I think overall, Sydney FC fans will go, probably a little bit underwhelmed overall.”
