It’s an exciting moment for soccer and football fans – the AFC Women’s Asian Cup officially starts on 1 March, and Australia is the host. It means we’re about to have access to world class football on home soil; the likes of which we haven’t seen since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Australia’s national team, the Matildas have reassembled, bringing home star players like Ellie Carpenter, Sam Kerr, Hayley Raso, Caitlin Foord, Alanna Kennedy and Steph Catley. The team is ready to hopefully take home a trophy.

Who is on the Matildas squad for the Asian Cup?
This Asian Cup squad is made up of an exciting mix of Matildas icons and fresh new talent. Excitingly, Sam Kerr is back after taking close to two years out for injury. Arsenal trio Kyra Cooney Cross, Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord are here and ready. And other familiar faces from the 2023 FIFA World Cup include Emily Van Egmond, Ellie Carpenter, Katrina Gorry, Clare Hunt, Hayley Raso, Mary Fowler, Mackenzie Arnold.
Sadly, Charlie Grant who was widely expected to make the squad was ruled out due to injury. Likewise, Tegan Micah who was initially on the team unfortunately had to pull out due to a concussion.
