What the ‘RUSSH’ Editors are wearing this tennis season

In partnership with LOEWE

Melbourne’s weather is famously unpredictable, but the Australian Open is one event that never fails to deliver — on drama, on energy, and, of course, on fashion. This year, the RUSSH team is bringing a mix of practicality and on-court-inspired dressing to Melbourne’s iconic grounds, with looks that balance comfort and heat, without compromising style. From layered tailoring to sneakers that look chic while withstanding a full day of walking, here’s what we’ll be wearing this tennis season as we move between matches, activations, and the inevitable post-game celebrations.

Melbourne’s weather can be notoriously unpredictable, so I’m keeping my outfit simple with room for layering if a cool chill sets in. The base of my look is this belted skirt – it’s made from lightweight cotton and silk, and I love the extra interest added from the belt detail.

I’m pairing it with this simple shrunken t-shirt and, to tie it all together, the Panta Amazona 31 — small enough to throw over my shoulder, but big enough to fit sunscreen, my disposable camera, and snacks. When the weather cools down, this brown parka is the perfect shade to throw over my shoulders.

I’ll always opt for a sneaker over a heel, and a long day is certainly not the time to switch that up. I know I’m likely to be on my feet running between matches, food stalls, and on-site activations so these LOEWE x Louis Wain Ballet Runner 2.0s are the perfect way to look chic and stay comfortable.

I always try to get down to the Australian Open (if I can) for the middle weekend. The round three matches I feel give you the best chance of seeing some really interesting players! Alas this year, the middle weekend comes with a Melbourne-style heatwave where temperatures reach 40 degrees at around 5pm in the afternoon.

Dressing sensibly will be critical if I want to last for the whole day. I think linen pants and then a cute tee that covers my shoulders is best. This neutral number is the perfect breezy tennis top for cool, but sun-safe dressing. I prefer a sandal over a sneaker in really hot weather and these burgundy ones are chic and comfortable. No one can tell me burgundy is not a neutral. Of course, I’ll need a big pair of sunglasses to shield my face. I love Loewe’s dramatic eyewear, it really helps to tie an outfit all together. This oval pair will do the trick.

I haven’t planned any tennis-related outings this year, but true to form, I’m hoping I can pull something together at the last minute. Regardless, I have some ideas when it comes to my outfit. I know it’s summer, but you always need reliable outerwear. I love the sporty design of this short jacket – navy and chocolate is also a great colour combination. Underneath I’d go for easy tailoring: an oversized camel trouser, blue shirt and chocolate leather mules. Sunglasses are essential. I love Loewe eyewear – they do unexpected, oversized shapes in classic colourways. These are extremely fun.

Heading to the tennis, I always want a small bag. You never need as much as you think, and there’s never that much space at your seat for something too big. The small puzzle is the perfect size — especially in the brown soft grained calfskin. Pairing it with these washed denim jeans and a crisp white asymmetrical shirt is the perfect fun-but-smart outfit. To finish it off, pairing with these classic toy pumps in burgundy. As an owner of these shoes I know they’re already like walking on clouds (which is key after a big day out). It’s light, fun and classic — this outfit will never go out of style.

This year I really feel like I’m entering my spectator era and you’ll (hopefully) find me court and field-side more often. The AO in Melbourne is, of course, the sparkling crown jewel of spectatorship and I’d have to honour the occasion with a worthy fit. Weather permitting – I’m always looking for an excuse to put on a comfy knit, so the LOEWE Scarf Sweater with the sweetest blue contrast stitch is at the top of my list, paired with a fun tennis skirt. On the arm – the LOEWE Hammock Flip bag in this gorgeous black calfskin is the perfect size to meet AO bag requirements, while still providing ample storage. And of course, to ride out the four-season-in-a-day of Melbourne weather, a great casual jacket is necessary. Specifically: the LOEWE Draped Jacket in this mid-weight cotton washed denim.
