Next February’s Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising anime film has received a second trailer. The new preview has no action, but it offers vibes, character art showcases, and overlaid voice lines that include questions like “What is this fight?”
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising was announced in April 2021 and was meant to be released in winter 2024 before a delay to winter 2025. The film is the follow-up to 2011’s Puella Magi Madoka Magica and its 2013 sequel film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion.
Crunchyroll describes the original TV series as such:
She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny- This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
Aside from the main Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, there was a TV anime adaptation of the now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story gacha game that began in 2020 and ended in 2022. The spin-off anime had three seasons (the second season had eight episodes, while Final Season had four, suggesting that the second season was split due to production issues).
A new Madoka Magica game titled Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra launched on mobile on March 27, 2025 and arrived on Steam on July 17.
