Anime holding and planning company Twin Engine has acquired the shares of animation studio NUT.
The move brings NUT under the Twin Engine group and the so-called EOTA (Engine of the Animation) organization, which now houses a collection of 18 studios and creative units with NUT’s addition. The other studios/units include Studio Colorido, BUG FILMS, and Studio Kafka.
Twin Engine says that NUT will develop challenging projects and create original IP.
For Twin Engine, the acquisition is a means of shoring up its production infrastructure and deepening its development system. It’s also looking at continuous creation of original IP and an increase in value from a medium to long term perspective.
NUT was founded in 2017 by producer Takuya Tsunoki, a former Madhouse staff who had worked on titles like Chihayafuru (animation producer), Death Parade (animation producer), and Paradise Kiss (production assistant). The anime it has produced include The Saga of Tanya the Evil, DECA-DENCE, Blue Giant, Bullbuster, and Negative Positive Angler.
Twin Engine was founded in 2014 by Koji Yamamoto, who was previously involved with Fuji TV’s noitaminA block. In 2024, the company announced three new anime studios: NAGOMI, Studio Chromato, and Crew-Cell. The Shingo Yamashita-led Studio Chromato participated in the recent, Yamashita-directed original movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, which proved to be a popular title.
