Trump speaks to PM Modi, discusses Middle East war, Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East war, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor announced the conversation in a post. India has maintained a neutral position on the West Asia conflict while urging for peace, diplomacy and dialogue. India is among the rare countries allowed safe passage of its vessels through the Strait of Hormuz due to its good relations with Iran. Two more Indian vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz carrying 93,000 metric tonnes of LPG. The Trump-Modi conversation follows a discussion between External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. An Indian Navy Task Force is already deployed, escorting Indian ships after they cross the Strait of Hormuz. India’s primary concern remains ensuring sea lanes of communication remain open for oil and gas supplies and the safety of one crore Indians living in the region.
