Trump Praises Pakistan But Threatens Iran Again After Waking Up to ‘Bad News’

US President Donald Trump instead of breakfast straight ahead praised Pakistan’s military and political leadership on Sunday following high-stakes negotiations with Iran in Islamabad, but also issued one of his strongest warnings yet to Tehran after the talks failed to resolve the nuclear dispute.

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump said the Islamabad meetings went “well” overall, with agreement reached on most issues. He seemed annoyed after learning about the future of Iran’s nuclear program. He called it the only issue that truly mattered.

Trump also singled out Pakistan’s role in hosting the talks and commended Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their leadership during the talks. He described both leaders as “extraordinary men” and credited Pakistan with helping prevent a wider regional war.

Despite the diplomatic tone toward Islamabad, Trump’s message toward Iran was sharply confrontational.

He announced that the United States Navy would begin preparations for a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said US forces would intercept vessels suspected of paying Iran tolls for save passage.

He warned that any Iranian attack on US forces or commercial shipping would trigger overwhelming military retaliation.

The announcement followed the end of direct US-Iran negotiations mediated in Pakistan, where American officials including Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner held face-to-face discussions with senior Iranian representatives. Both sides acknowledged progress on several fronts, but the talks ultimately failed to produce any big arrangement.

Trump reiterated his long-standing position that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. He didn’t say anything about extending the current ceasefire, which will end on April 22, 2026.
