Last month saw the announcement that the Toaru Anbu no ITEM TV anime, a Toaru franchise spin-off about fourth-ranked Level 5 esper Shizuri “Meltdowner” Mugino and her Dark Side outfit Item, was a 2026 title directed by A Certain Scientific Railgun‘s Tatsuyuki Nagai. Now, a teaser trailer has revealed that the show will begin airing in the Fall 2026 anime, while also getting viewers slightly (re)acquainted with the dangerous members of Item.

The character design previews for Shizuri and her allies, as well as an apparent new member called Hanano Chobi, are up on the anime’s website.
Toaru Anbu no ITEM is based on the light novels written by A Certain Magical Index (Toaru Majutsu no Index) author Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Niritsu (Niritsu and A Certain Magical Index illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura are credited as character designers). The light novel series, which are published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label/imprint, began in 2023 and have six volumes as of February 2, 2026 (JST). There is a manga adaptation (also KADOKAWA-published) drawn by strelka.
The Toaru Anbu no ITEM anime was announced in February 2026, along with a fourth season of A Certain Scientific Railgun. The members of Item have appeared in both A Certain Magical Index and its fellow Level 5 esper-centric spin-off.
Among the various Toaru spin-offs, A Certain Scientific Accelerator also received a TV anime.
