The anime adaptation of Toaru Anbu no ITEM (A Certain Dark Side’s ITEM), a spin-off of A Certain Magical Index, now has a teaser visual and a 2026 release date. The visual shows the members of the titular organization on what seems like a regular outing, while an individual eyes them from a distance.

These reveals were accompanied by some production information. Tatsuyuki Nagai (A Certain Scientific Railgun, Anohana, Toradora!) is directing Toaru Anbu no ITEM at J.C.STAFF, while Shigeki Kimoto (DanMachi) is the character designer.
It was also announced that the voice actor for the character Chobi Hanano will be unveiled at a stage event at NBC Universal Entertainment’s AnimeJapan 2026 booth on March 28.
Toaru Anbu no ITEM is based on the light novels written by A Certain Magical Index author Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Niritsu (Niritsu and A Certain Magical Index illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura are credited as character designers). As the title suggests, the spin-off focuses on the Dark Side group ITEM, which is led by the fourth-ranked Level 5 esper Shizuri Mugino and has appeared in A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun.
The light novels, which are published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label, began in 2023 and number six volumes as of February 2, 2026. There is a manga adaptation (also KADOKAWA-published) drawn by strelka.
Toaru Anbu no ITEM was announced in February 2026, along with a fourth season of A Certain Scientific Railgun.
