This coming Wednesday, April 15th, delightfully theatrical London five-piece The Last Dinner Party will be returning to the 215 to headline Franklin Music Hall, a room 12 times the size of the venue they played the last time they were in town. However, we’re just as excited about Irish indie rock quartet Florence Road, who are opening the baroque pop band’s North American tour. Last month Florence Road – who DIY proclaimed to be, “Teetering on the edge of something truly brilliant.” – released their Spring Forward EP, the follow-up to Fall Back, their 2025 debut mixtape. Whether you’ve secured your tickets to see The Last Dinner Party or you still need to be convinced to attend this stellar bill, we think you seriously need to see Florence Road April 15th at Franklin Music Hall. Here are Three Reasons why…
1. THEIR RECENT EP, SPRING FORWARD, IS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED
The four tracks of Spring Forward have Florence Road blending the moodiness and angst of the best ‘90s alt-rock (They’re frequently compared to The Cranberries, but apparently they are big fans…) with that of the most satisfying sad music of more recent times (Last year they covered Phoebe Bridgers’ “Georgia” for Like A Version.). And as we embrace springtime, it would seem to serve as the perfect reminder of the kinds of things that we should and shouldn’t long to have in our lives. “At it’s core, Spring Forward is about relationships, the ups and downs, the ones you want to forget and the ones you never want to let go of. It lives in that space between love, loss and the slow realization that not everything you lose was meant to stay. It’s about being young and discovering love in all the ways, looking back, and figuring out which people and moments actually stick with you,” the band says of the EP.
2. IT’S THEIR FIRST TIME EVER IN THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE AND SISTERLY AFFECTION
Although Florence Road have already toured much of the world, doing runs supporting Wallows, Royel Otis, Wolf Alice, and Olivia Rodrigo, in addition to performances at the 2025 editions of Victorious Festival, Kendal Calling, and Great Escape (and 2024’s Electric Picnic), this coming Wednesday’s show will be their first appearance in Philthy… And, if YouTube videos are to be trusted, their live show is definitely something our kinds of people would not want to miss… And if setlist.fm can be trusted, the band’s opening sets on the From The Pyre Tour have all featured unique performances, including different combinations of Fall Back and Spring Forward, along with a couple of brand-new, unreleased songs on a number of dates.
3. THE HEADLINER IS QUITE GOOD, AS WELL
This might be a big swing, but I dare say that The Last Dinner Party just might live up to their hype more so than any other act of the decade thus far… And while we were honored to get the chance to see them at the 250-capacity Johnny Brenda’s in 2023, for a show that will be discussed for years to come and at a time when the band had a whopping two songs on Spotify, I’m quite anxious to experience the heights (pun intended) that their theatrics can achieve on Franklin Music Hall’s super-sized stage with two full-lengths under their belt. And apparently they’ve got a nearly-two-hour, 19-20-song spectacle all ready to go for us.
