“This isn’t Loon Mountain” remembering a quote that defined Snowmageddon and how it relates to 2026.
Way back in 2015, some of you may have still been in grammar school when Boston was pummeled with a record-breaking 110.6 inches of snow, the snowiest season in the city’s history. Mayor Marty Walsh had to make this announcement, warning residents to stop doing stupid shit in the snow.
He punctuated his speech with the legendary quote, “This isn’t Loon Mountain,” like a disappointed dad that actually had to tell his children to stop acting like jackasses, doing things like jumping out of windows into the snow.
This was also the time in our history when Walsh’s administration introduced temporary one-way streets, with the numbered streets becoming one-way – either westbound or eastbound, depending on the number. We’d like to see that come back after this blizzard. How about you?
We also just posted a very important Snow Etiquette post for you to read and share. And let us not forget, love ’em or hate ’em, the Unofficial Rules for Saving a Spot After a Snowstorm, which you can read here.
Be careful and courteous out there!
