A new wine-soaked, delightfully luxurious spa session has just been unveiled in the heart of the Coonawarra wine region. Penola Coonawarra Caravan Park has officially opened its handcrafted wine barrel hot tubs for booking.

The experience launched over the holiday period and features authentic wine barrels converted into heated, filtered spa-style tubs. Each private 45-minute session includes a complimentary bottle of local Coonawarra red wine. Sessions can be booked online from 1pm daily, with availability for couples, families, and two-person groups.

Park owner Nathan Seal said the idea was designed to offer something different in the region while leaning into Coonawarra’s strong wine identity.

“I’ve been looking for something that will add another great experience to our offering and try to attract more people to the area,” he said. “We’re in the heart of a wine region, so of course, wine barrels made sense.”

The tubs are fully heated and chlorinated, with temperatures adjusted to the season.

The experience is open to everyone, not just those staying at the caravan park. Visitors can park nearby and use the park’s amenities, including toilets and showers, located near the tubs.

The wine barrel baths are part of a broader push to transform the caravan park into not just a wonderful place to stay, but a base camp for kicking off the many experiences offered by the park.

On top of the baths, Nathan has also recently introduced e-bike hire and a set of glamping tents.

“I’m trying to make it a one-stop shop for different experiences across Penola and Coonawarra,” he said. “Not just a caravan park, but something that helps bring more visitors to town.”

Guests hiring e-bikes can access the nearby 27-kilometre wine trail, with complimentary wine tastings at selected wineries along the route. Nathan recommends pairing a day of cycling and wine tasting with a sunset soak.

The experience has already gained strong traction and rave reviews. “It’s pretty exciting,” Nathan said.

Jump on one of the e-bikes, spend the day tasting local wine and produce, then come back, set up in a glamping tent, and finish with a hot tub. Sounds like a perfect day.

Bookings are essential due to limited availability. Same-day bookings can be made by contacting the park directly.
