ufotable has released a video for the Witch on the Holy Night anime movie, featuring new footage and the reveal of a 2026 release date.
Additionally, it was announced that more details will be unveiled in spring.
Witch on the Holy Night (Mahotsukai no Yoru) was announced back in 2021 It is based on the visual novel by Type-Moon. Steam’s story description for the game’s HD re-release reads:
In the mansion on the hill, there lived two witches…
It is the late 1980s—the twilight of an era of beauty and vigor.
A boy moves to the city, barely missing two witches living in modern times.
The boy leads a completely ordinary life.
She carries herself with gallant pride.
The girl lives a sleepy, hidden life.
Each walks a starlit path.
One would never expect their paths to cross.
The story of how these three disparate people came together is soon to be told.
The Witch on the Holy Night visual novel was first released for PC in Japan in 2012. The fully voiced, full HD version was released for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in December 2022 and came to Steam in December 2023.
One of the principle characters, Aoko Aozaki, appeared in the 2000 visual novel Tsukihime (which takes place after Witch on the Holy Night and has received a remake of two of its routes) and has shown up in various other Type-Moon-related titles as well. Another character, Aoko’s sister, Touko Aozaki, is a major character in The Garden of Sinners light novel series, which has been adapted into a series of anime films also produced by ufotable.
The game’s cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki, Yusuke Kobayashi as Sojuro Shizuki, Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji, Aoki Ruriko as Touko Aozaki, Chika Anzai as Kojika Kumari, Shohei Kajikawa as Hosuke Kinomi, and Toshinari Fukamachi as Tobimaru Tsukiji.
