Western Australia is abuzz with the news that a brand new Netflix series, Breakers, is being filmed right here, right now in our spectacular South West. And, not only is it supposed to showcase our ridonculously beautiful backyard with filming locations down south, but it’s also set to bring 100 local jobs and a boost of over $19 million to the WA economy with this hotly-awaited series. Not too shabby, eh?
But what exactly is this show about? Who’s starring in it? And what else do we know? Let’s dive in…
What’s The New Netflix TV Show, Breakers, About?
Producers are keeping it all very hush-hush, and all we know at this point is that the eight-part series follows two best friends who go backpacking in Australia and stumble across a seemingly perfect surfing community with a suuuuper charismatic but potentially suss leader.
That’s it. That’s all she wrote. Infruiatingly vague yet intoxicatingly intriguing.
Who’s Starring In Breakers?
Again, things are being kept under wraps about the wider cast, but the main name attached to it so far is Kiwi actor, Antony Starr (who you will probably recognise from The Boys, Banshee, The Covenant, and G20). He’s kind of a big deal, so we’re hoping an entourage of Hollywood besties may head West to join him.

What Else Do We Know About The Production?
Breakers will be directed by the brilliant creatives Mary Nighy (Say Nothing, Industry) and Ng Choon Ping (What It Feels Like For A Girl, Femme) and produced by Clerkenwell Films (in partnership with BBC Studios Productions Australia). You may recognise that name from hit shows like Baby Reindeer (we’re still not over it) and The End of the F***ing World, so yep, a pretty big deal. It was also written by Pete Jackson (The Death of Bunny Munro, Somewhere Boy) so we can feel our hopes rising already.

When Will Breakers Be Released On Netflix?
We won’t lie to you….we have no idea, for now at least. As with most things around this production, Netflix is keeping the release date for Breakers vague and under wraps for now. But, as soon as we know more, you’ll, as always, be the first to know.
