‘The Confession’ Trailer Revives the Pied Piper Legend [Exclusive]

The Pied Piper is one of those fascinating legends that horror can’t seem to get enough of. Dating back to the Middle Ages, the German legend tells of a piper who rids a town of rats, only to take revenge and lure the children away when he isn’t paid. The character has appeared in and influenced countless horror films. Will Canon’s The Confession looks to continue that trend, as you can see in your exclusive first look at the trailer below, released today by Quiver Distribution.

Set in rural Texas, The Confession follows Naomi (Italia Ricci). A widowed musician, she moves back into her childhood home with her son. There, she discovers a cassette tape on which her deceased father describes a grisly murder he committed to protect himself from an evil force. Baffled, Naomi enlists the help of an old friend to get to the bottom of the mystery, and together, they discover dark secrets about the history of their hometown. With her son suddenly behaving in ways odder than the average child, Naomi desperately searches for a way to stop the evil looking to claim her son.

This is why I don’t have kids. You never know when an ancient child-eater is going to lure them away with a magical flute. Or ice cream. How dare the Pied Piper ruin ice cream? But in all seriousness, The Confession looks to be right up the alley for anyone who enjoys a good “the kids are not all right” film. 

The Confession also stars Zachary Golinger (A Quiet Place Part II), Scott Mechlowicz (Demonic), Terence Rosemore (Haunted Mansion), Allie McCulloch (The Night House), and Justin Matthew Smith (Saturday Night).
