Teenage boy allegedly attacks rideshare driver with machete over Bluetooth refusal

A Sydney teenager is accused of putting a rideshare driver in hospital after allegedly attacking him with a machete over a refusal to play his music in the car.

The 31-year-old driver was travelling on Patrick St in Blacktown, in Sydney’s west, about midnight on Sunday when police allege the 17-year-old passenger asked to connect his phone to the car’s Bluetooth.

When the driver refused, police allege the teenager allegedly attacked the man with a machete before fleeing.

“Police were told an unknown person — armed with a machete — allegedly assaulted the man in the car before leaving in an unknown direction,” NSW Police said.

Police found the driver sitting in his Toyota sedan with a laceration to his arm.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was arrested at a home on Valeria St in Toongabbie, in Sydney’s west, around three hours after the alleged attack.

He was taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The teen was refused bail to appear before Children’s Court on Sunday.
