The company also announced that it will showcase an exclusive special 10-minute sneak peek of the Tears of the Azure Sea anime film, as part of the Crunchyroll Anime Nights program, when it screens That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond.

Crunchyroll describes the main synopsis of the Tears of the Azure Sea anime film as:

After concluding the opening ceremony of the Demon Kingdom Federation Tempest, Rimuru and his companions are invited by the Celestial Emperor Elmesia of the great elven nation – the Magi Dynasty Thalion – to visit her private resort island. As the group enjoys their brief vacation, a mysterious woman named Yura appears. A new incident unfolds against the backdrop of the boundless azure sea.

Yasuhito Kikuchi (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 1, Scarlet Bond) is directing the anime film, with original light novel author Fuse as story draft and supervisor, Toshizo Nemoto (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime: Visions of Coleus and Season 3 series composer) and Kikuchi as scriptwriters, Ryoma Ebata (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime) as character designer, and Takahiro Kishida (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as monster designer. Eight Bit is in charge of the animation production.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea (also known in Japanese as Gekijoban Tenseishitara Slime Datta Ken: Sokai no Namida-hen) is the second anime film in the long-running series after Scarlet Bond in 2022.

The That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime began in 2018 with a TV series. A fourth season was announced in 2024 with the new anime film and will begin broadcasting on April 3, 2026. The series also inspired a spin-off titled The Slime Diaries and a three-episode OVA series titled Visions of Coleus in November 2023.

The anime is inspired by Taiki Kawakami‘s manga adaptation of Fuse’s isekai fantasy light novel series. The manga began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius on March 26, 2015 and has released 31 tankobon volumes in Japan as of February 2026. Kodansha USA releases the manga adaptation, and several of its manga spinoff titles, in English.

The series began as a web novel, written by Fuse, on Shosetsuka ni Naro that was published from February 2013 to January 2016. It was then published as a light novel series by Micro Magazine, which included illustrations from Mitz Vah, from May 30, 2014 to November 29, 2025. Twenty-three total volumes were published in Japan. Yen Press licensed the light novels for release in English.
