The owner of the PSL franchise Multan Sultans, Ali Tareen, has often criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over their decisions and mismanagement, frequently voicing his dissatisfaction via social media or podcasts. He slammed the PCB for its failure to bring new ideas to the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He said:

The PCB is saying we are going to do exactly what we did last year and the year before that, but this will be the biggest PSL. How? What are your plans to make it bigger?”

Tareen’s Dissatisfaction with PCB:

Tareen expressed immense disappointment, claiming that the PCB was not giving proper attention to the league and that the management was poor. When the PCB posted on X about the successful organisation of PSL 10, Tareen responded, criticising the logistics:

Team logistics were shambolic because every team had to split their players and staff into three different hotels in the same city.”

When the PCB posted on X about the successful conclusion of the PSL 10  and the satisfaction of stakeholders, Tareen again criticized the PCB’s claims. He said:

Applause? You must be kidding.”

Tareen also expressed frustration with the low attendance at stadiums, blaming the PCB for failing to bring anything new to the league.

PCB’s Notice to Tareen:

After a series of criticisms from Ali Tareen towards the Pakistan Cricket Board and PSL, the PCB decided to send a legal notice to Tareen, accusing him of breaching a clause in their franchise agreement and demanding an apology for his recent public criticism. However, Tareen escalated the situation by mocking the PCB’s actions. He sarcastically apologized in a video, tearing up the legal notice publicly and posting it on his social media accounts.

While tearing up the legal notice, Tareen said:

You don’t even want to work with your stakeholders.”

You cannot bear criticism from anyone.”

After the sarcastic apology, he continued:

Only a big man apologizes. I apologize for wanting to make the PSL better. I apologize for raising my voice when I saw problems. It is my fault, not yours.”

Tareen’s Farewell to Multan Sultans:

After all the drama, Ali Tareen decided to step down from the ownership of Multan Sultans. Bidding farewell to his franchise, he said:

I’m bidding farewell to the franchise I’ve owned for seven years.”

PCB Takes Over the Ownership of Multan Sultans:

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that the Pakistan Cricket Board would take over the operation of the Multan Sultans franchise for the upcoming PSL season. He also revealed that 10 parties had been finalized for the auction of two new teams joining the PSL.

Naqvi further stated:

The Future of Multan Sultans’ Ownership:

With the PCB taking charge of the ownership of Multan Sultans, the franchise’s future is now under the control of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Ali Tareen’s exit marks a major shift in the league, which could see changes in the franchise’s operations and management style.

The battle between Ali Tareen and the PCB has now ended with the PCB taking charge of the ownership of Multan Sultans. Although Tareen pointed out some genuine issues, he chose the wrong approach. Instead of criticizing the PCB and the PSL publicly through social media, he could have arranged a meeting with the board and addressed his concerns sincerely.
