Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday said that while he wished actor-politician Vijay well, his political efforts would not succeed, asserting that the INDIA alliance would emerge victorious.
Responding to Vijay’s claim that the electoral contest would be only between TVK and DMK, Chidambaram said, “My wishes to Vijay but his attempts will not succeed.” He expressed strong confidence in the opposition bloc, saying, “Only INDI Alliance will win and there is no doubt about it in my heart.”
Chidambaram said the alliance’s strength lay in its experience. “This is because INDI Alliance is very strong, faced several elections and knows how to conduct election campaigns,” he said, adding that electoral contests depend on individual constituencies, but reiterated his belief that the alliance would prevail.
On seat-sharing, Chidambaram declined to specify numbers and said decisions would be taken through discussions. When asked how many seats the Congress was planning to seek, he replied, “How many seats do you think we can ask?”
Reacting to speculation that the Congress might seek 40 seats, he said it was routine for journalists to raise such questions and that the matter would be settled through talks. “In the end, the seats will be decided by the DMK leader and the Congress leader. Anyone can express their opinion, but the decision is taken by the two leaders,” he said.
