Tamil Nadu elections: TVK chief Vijay says his party will form alliance with any party for polls

Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Friday said that his party will contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, exuding confidence that it will form the government with an absolute majority.

In an exclusive conversation with India Today TV, Vijay asserted that TVK would not align with either the INDIA bloc or the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) before or after the polls, maintaining that the party would secure a single-party majority on its own.

“TVK won’t join the INDIA bloc or the NDA before or after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. I am fully assured that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam will get a full majority and form the next government in the state,” Vijay said.

“I will definitely win. People are looking for a change,” he added, expressing confidence that voters would back his party’s ‘whistle’ symbol.

Furthermore, the TVK chief suspected that his political opponents may distribute money to voters but assured that people will support TVK. “Although money may be distributed during elections, voters would ultimately choose the whistle,” he said.

Vijay also revealed that his decision to enter politics was taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I decided to enter politics during the Corona period. I knew it was the right time,” he said.

The actor formally launched TVK last year and has positioned the party as an alternative in Tamil Nadu’s bipolar political landscape.

Earlier in the day, Vijay also attended a highly charged election rally in Salem and launched a scathing attack on the Chief Minister MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government for denying permission and putting restrictions on his political rallies across the state.

Vijay alleged that while other political parties were granted permission to hold rallies, his party faced repeated hurdles. “What wrong has this Vijay done? Was it wrong that I left everything and entered politics?” he asked.

His remarks came after Tamil Nadu Police permitted the actor-turned-politician’s Salem rally, imposing a cap on the number of participants and also issuing entry passes with QR code in view of the Karur stampede.

Only 4,998 people were allowed to attend the rally. Police had also restricted the entry of pregnant women, children and the elderly.
