Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan has expressed excitement over the increasing presence of Pakistani cricketers in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), calling it an opportunity for both players and fans.
Representing Sydney Thunder, Shadab said that the participation of several Pakistani stars has added value and prestige to the league.
Speaking during a virtual media session from Sydney, he noted that while Pakistani players have featured in Australia before, this is the first time such a large number are playing together in the BBL.
“The league is also getting fame because of big names from Pakistan,” Shadab said.
He added that competing against fellow Pakistani teammates abroad brings a unique feeling. “In our country, we’ve been playing against each other, but now we are doing it internationally. Everyone is looking forward to facing friends in competitive matches,” he said.
Shadab described the BBL as an important opportunity for him following a five-month break from cricket. He said injuries are a normal part of the sport and stressed the need to make the most of the opportunity.
He also recalled the strong support Pakistani players received from fans during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
The all-rounder highlighted the learning opportunity of sharing the dressing room with players like Pat Cummins and David Warner. “We will get an opportunity to learn from them, and it’s always beneficial to be around such big names,” he said.
Shadab also emphasized that individual moments do not guarantee overall success. “I shouldn’t assume I’m super fit just by taking Babar Azam’s wicket. We know each other well; the effort will be to live up to the franchise’s expectations,” he added.
This BBL season will see Shadab Khan play for Sydney Thunder, while other leading Pakistani players, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Haris Rauf, will represent different franchises.
