Southie Shoutout to: Molly Murphy for Her History-Inspired New Year Greeting Card Winning Design
A big Southie shout-out is in order for Molly Murphy, a fourth-grade student at South Boston Catholic Academy, who kicked off the New Year with some serious hometown pride and creativity.
Molly was recently recognized for designing a greeting card that thoughtfully celebrates Boston history. Her artwork features the Beaver, one of the three ships involved in the Boston Tea Party—a nod to the city’s revolutionary roots — and a replica on display at the Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum. The design stood out for its attention to detail and appreciation of local history.
State Representative David Biele, who ran the contest, presented Molly with a citation and a prize after school, celebrating her talent and hard work alongside her proud parents, Leah and Tim Murphy.
The moment also served as a reminder that Boston is heading into a milestone year, with 250th anniversary celebrations for Evacuation Day and the nation’s founding planned throughout the year — and young artists like Molly are already getting into the spirit.
Nice work, Molly — you’ve done Southie proud!
