South Australian students honoured at Government House for excellence in academics and community service

Government House is set to host forty exceptional students from across South Australia who are being honoured for their academic achievements and significant societal contributions. These students have earned a prestigious recognition – the Governor of South Australia Commendation. This accolade is part of a larger celebration involving 1,221 students who achieved one or more subject Merits in their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) in 2025.

One of the commendation recipients, Grace Muhama, who excelled in Specialist Mathematics, English Literary Studies, and Biology, shared her experiences. “Completing the SACE is more than a certificate — it’s a journey that has sparked our passions, built lifelong friendships and equipped us with the skills and values to make a difference beyond the classroom,” said Grace, who plans to become a surgical oncologist.

Another notable highlight of the ceremony will be the awarding of the Tennyson Medal to Leni Fendt for achieving the highest result in English Literary Studies in 2025. This medal is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards given by the SACE Board.

Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, will be hosting this significant event. She shared, “The Governor of South Australia Commendations recognise 40 students from diverse social and geographical backgrounds who have gone beyond academic success to make a meaningful difference in their schools and communities.

“From leading mental health and wellbeing initiatives, championing sustainability and inclusion, to advancing reconciliation and cultural understanding, these students exemplify initiative, resilience and leadership.

“I hope all students recognised at the ceremony will continue to build on their achievements and use their talents to contribute to the future of South Australia.”

The Minister for Education, Training and Skills, Blair Boyer, added, “Students are now entering the next phase of their lives – whether its further study at TAFE or university, or an apprenticeship or traineeship, or walking straight into a job – school leavers have never had so many opportunities available to them right here in South Australia.”

This ceremony is just the first of four planned to honour students who have demonstrated remarkable academic excellence, along with significant contributions to their communities. These events not only serve to recognise the brilliant young minds of South Australia but also to inspire them to continue leveraging their abilities for the betterment of society. As these students transition to their next phases in life, whether it’s further study, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce, they carry forward a legacy of excellence and community service.
