A Singapore-bound Air India flight carrying around 190 passengers was forced to return to Delhi early Thursday after the aircraft developed a technical issue mid-air, according to official sources.
The flight, AI 2380, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, had taken off from Indira Gandhi International Airport late Wednesday night. Sources told news agency PTI that the aircraft was airborne for nearly an hour when a fire warning related to the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) was received, prompting the crew to take a precautionary decision to turn back.
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that the aircraft departed Delhi as scheduled and landed back at the airport at around 1 am on Thursday.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that the operating crew decided to carry out a precautionary return shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue.
“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi. Our ground teams at Delhi extended all necessary assistance to passengers and the flight departed for Singapore on an alternative aircraft,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Air India also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the unforeseen situation.
