Sindh Govt to Introduce New Laws to Address Old and Unsafe Private Property

The Sindh government is preparing to introduce new laws on dilapidated buildings, officials said during a high-level meeting held at the Commissioner’s Office Karachi.

The meeting was chaired by Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and attended by the Additional Chief Secretary Sindh, Commissioner Karachi, Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Chairman of ABAD, and other senior officials from relevant departments.

Addressing the meeting, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said protecting the lives and property of citizens is the top priority of the Sindh government, adding that no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.

He said new laws are being introduced to deal with unsafe and dilapidated buildings. Alongside this, he directed authorities to identify unsafe structures, ensure the safe evacuation of residents, and carry out demolition where required.

The minister also instructed officials to speed up the digitization of building records to improve access to information and allow the timely identification of illegal constructions.

During the meeting, officials reviewed lists of dangerous buildings in different areas and set timelines for relevant departments to accelerate action. Experts warned that recent rains and the worsening condition of buildings have increased the risk of major incidents.
