Shozen, A Japanese Anime Adaptation of Fantasy Manhua Shangshan, Will Air in 2027

A Japanese TV anime adaptation of the Chinese fantasy comic Shangshan is set to begin airing in 2027. A trailer and visual for the show, which sees a Taoist priest taking on a girl raised by monsters as an apprentice and traveling companion, have been released.

The anime, titled Shozen in Japanese, will be broadcast on Fuji TV’s B8Station slot. The slot traditionally airs Japanese-dubbed versions of Chinese animated shows.

Shozen‘s production credits include:

• Director and scriptwriter: Itsuro Kawasaki (The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting)
• Assistant director: Tomohiro Matsukawa (Iwakakeru -Sport Climbing Girls-)
• Character designer: Eri Osada (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat)
• Action director: Yoshihiro Kanno (Solo Leveling [shared credit in Season 2], Sword Art Online Alicization co-action animation director)
• Animation production: Dangun Pictures and Cannon Code

Rina Kawaguchi stars as the titular Shozen, the monster-raised girl, while Hiroshi Kamiya is the Taoist priest Dozen. The cast also includes Daisuke Sakuma as Ryojin, Aoi Yuki as Kensei, and Ayumu Murase as Chiro. 

The original Shangshan manhua was created by Jiangjia Meizi. It can be found on Bilibili Manga.
