‘Shelby Oaks’ on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Today

Shelby Oaks is getting a physical release in the U.S. in January, and it’s probably a good purchase of physical media for movie lovers, not only for its collectors’ appeal, but it also has some historical significance, too.

YouTube movie reviewer Chris Stuckmann has been working on this film for years. He started a crowdfunding campaign, which went viral. He wanted $250K but ended up with $1.3 million

He struggled a bit with production, but Mike Flanagan stepped in to help, and the rest is history.

The movie itself is a familiar yarn, but the camera work, acting, and production value are better than most indies. Also, the twist on the found-footage genre is unique.

Says Stuckmann, in a press release, “With Shelby Oaks, I looked to brilliant films like Joel Anderson’s Lake Mungo, a pseudo-documentary that expertly generates familial terror through the looming knowledge that something awful is going to happen, and there’s little that can be done about it. M.Night Shyamalan’s work on The Sixth Sense and Signs was also a great influence, his uncanny ability to generate tension out of thin air always on my mind.”

The U.K. released their Shelby Oaks Blu-ray and DVDs on Dec. 15. Here’s a press release for that overseas launch. So if you’re from across the pond, it’s your lucky day! The United States will release its physical media of Shelby Oaks on January. 6.
