Shaheen Afridi Starts BBL With a Disastrous Debut

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Big Bash League (BBL 15) debut ended on a difficult note after he was removed from the attack for dangerous bowling during the match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades in Geelong.

In the 18th over of the Renegades innings, after Brisbane Heat chose to field, Afridi bowled two waist-high full tosses, one to Tim Seifert and one to Ollie Peake. The deliveries were ruled dangerous, and Afridi was immediately taken out of the attack.

Heat captain Nathan McSweeney was required to bowl the final two deliveries of the over.

Afridi smiled briefly after he was told he could no longer bowl. He finished with figures of 0 for 43 from 2.4 overs, including three no-balls and two wides.

The Pakistan fast bowler had started the match positively, delivering three dot balls in his second over.

However, he struggled with his length as the innings progressed and was not brought back into the attack until the 13th over, when the Renegades activated the power surge. That over proved costly, with Afridi conceding 19 runs.

His final over was even tougher. In the 18th over, he conceded 15 runs, including three no-balls, before being removed from the attack.

Melbourne Renegades went on to post a commanding total of 212 for 5. Tim Seifert starred with a blistering 102 off 56 balls, while Ollie Peake contributed 57 off 29 deliveries.

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, also making his BBL debut for the Renegades, batted at number three but scored only 4 runs from 10 balls before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Paddy Dooley.
