Rumour: New ‘Dead Rising’ Entry Purportedly in Development

Despite Capcom having not revealed the sales numbers from last year’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, if the report from MP1st is to be believed, it would appear that they’re ready to forge ahead with a new entry in the series.

Before diving into this, it’s worth noting that Capcom hasn’t confirmed or announced any Dead Rising-related titles since they had that survey asking fans about “Deluxe Remasters” in the vein of the original Dead Rising.

According to MP1st’s sources (with Video Games Chronicle verifying some of the claims with their own sources), Capcom is busy gearing up for a new Dead Rising game, which will neither be a remake or a remaster. This new title has apparently been in development since 2023 under the codename “Rec,” and will see the return of the series original protagonist, Frank West. Furthermore, this title will be a direct sequel to the first game.

As for the setting, rather than a mall, the sequel will take place in Hollywood, “primarily within a massive, enclosed movie studio lot.” This also ties into the game’s plot, as Frank will be at the mercy of a deranged film director, forcing Frank and other survivors into various trials, all in the pursuit of the “perfect movie”.

Continuing from Dead Rising, this sequel will apparently see the return of Psychopaths, with some acting as minions of the film director. The report mentions that one of these minions is the director’s right-hand man, who will have been saved by Frank early on in the game, and who is tasked with filming everything while having a bomb strapped to their body.

Survivors will also be back again, which will include actors who have taken refuge from the zombie outbreak. Also returning is the mechanic of Frank using his camera to once again for taking photos of the environment, and the return of the infamous time limit. The latter in this case is being used by the director to threaten Frank and the Survivors, such as blowing up the studio in case they don’t follow his orders.

Admittedly, the Dead Rising series has never been a big seller for Capcom compared to Resident Evil (obviously), or even Devil May Cry. However, the fact that Capcom surprised everyone with that Deluxe Remaster shows that they’re willing to give the franchise another chance, and this apparent sequel is the next step.
