Rolled ice cream store ‘Scroll’d’ makes grand return with festival pop-up

After several years away, Scroll’d Ice cream is officially back, opening a pop-up at Glenelg’s Asia Oasis Street Food Festival at Glenelg’s Foreshore, and Adelaide ice cream lovers are welcoming the return with open arms.

At Glenelg’s Foreshore, Scroll’d are back with a bang and serving the original favourite flavours, while also introducing more Asian flavours, fitting with the theme of the festival.

Owner Danny Vo said the popular choices are matcha, pandan, Thai milk tea and durian. And although any flavour is possible, the other favourites include Ferrero Rocher, Nutella Biscoff, Oreo, and cheesecake.

Scroll’d has been trading with strong crowds and enthusiastic feedback at the Asia Oasis Street Food Festival.

“It’s been really busy and really nice to see the OG customers,” Danny said. “They have been waiting for us to come back, so it’s been very nice to connect with the old customers.”

Following the Glenelg event, Scroll’d Ice Cream will head to a major pop-up in Rundle Mall in March, before appearing at several other festivals, including the popular Thai Festival later next month.

At the heart of the brand is its custom-made ice cream, created fresh on a freezing cold plate chilled to minus 20 degrees.

“The faster the ice cream mix freezes, the smoother the texture, and so there’s no ice crystals,” said Danny. “Since it is rolled up, there’s air between each layer. So the mouth feel is a lot nicer and the texture is a lot different from just to your typical scoop ice cream.”

Beyond festivals, Danny is looking forward to the year ahead with the expansion of catering for private events, weddings, and birthdays. With personalised cups and scrolled ice cream cakes.

With its comeback now underway, Danny said the focus is on festivals, pop-ups and reconnecting with customers with hopes of reopening a permanent dessert-style store in the future.

“The most important thing is that people know we’re back,” he said. “We are going to do as many pop-ups and festivals as possible, and then in the near future, we’d like to reopen an actual popper store again.”
