Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr to scale back 6pm roles at 7 NEWS PERTH

Big news out of the West this morning, with Channel 7 confirming a significant change to its flagship 6.00pm bulletin in Perth for 2026.

After 40 years together leading the bulletin, Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr will transition to a revised on air schedule in 2026, scaling back their nightly commitments and allowing for a gradual handover of weeknight duties.

Under the new arrangement, Rick & Susannah will anchor the bulletin on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with current weekend presenters Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun presenting from Sunday to Wednesday.

Seven’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Ray Kuka, said the change followed a year of reflection after the duo’s historic milestone.

“2025 was a celebration of Sue and Rick’s historic contribution to WA, with a world record of 40 years fronting a news bulletin,” he said.

“It was also a moment of reflection for Sue and Rick, and it became clear this was the right time to give them more flexibility, while ensuring the future of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin, a news service they helped shape, continues to thrive with their enduring influence.

“Sue and Rick remain a central part of our on air identity, and this adjusted schedule allows them to continue to contribute where their experience matters most.”

“It speaks to the depth of skill and versality within the 7NEWS team that we have two newsreaders of Tim and Angela’s calibre to step up so seamlessly. They have been such a strong and united team alongside Rick and Sue, and we are thrilled this will continue.”

Carr said the decision came after years of being asked how long the pair would remain in the role.

“We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more,” she said.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from delivering the news for 40 years, it’s that life can change instantly, so when change can happen on your terms, you run with it.”

Ardon said viewers could expect his on air presence to continue well into the future.

“Viewers should know I’m still as hungry as ever as a presenter and also a journalist, always on the lookout for breaking news,” he said.
