We’ve been together donkeys years despite the daily rows
We’ll get it quickly done this year – if the Lord allows

We won’t go overboard with this – we’re keeping it low key
No church or vicar present with no need for registry
Just a simple service with Our Gert, the dog and me

We recognise, though, friends of ours might feel a little miffed
Prevented from attending by the choice we’ve made for thrift
But don’t let that deter you all from sending wedding gifts
To mark our happy day of perfect love.
We’ll think of you that day while we enjoy our private tryst
But wouldn’t you all to feel it’s something that you’ve missed
And so we’ll post on Facebook our extensive present list
For you to show how you’ve expressed your love.
I’m sure you’ll want to demonstrate how dear you are as friends
And not be thought as skimping on the types of gifts you send
So we thought a little runaround – a new Mercedes Benz
We know how much you’d want to show your love.
Our Gert has always fancied a black dress from Christian Dior
And a 3-week holiday on Sydney’s sunny shore
We’ll keep things to a minimum – we wouldn’t want much more
From you to show your generous true love
Maybe though funds might stretch for you to buy a 10-year lease
Upon a French Riviera flat for us – perhaps in Nice
Or charter just the two of us a 3-month cruise round Greece
A lovely way for you to show your love.
So enter in your diaries – reserve this special date
We know this means so much to you – but let us get this straight
You’ll not be there but your gifts will to make the nuptial great
