St. Joe’s Basketball (19–10) fought off a relentless rally by Rhode Island (15–14) for a 61–55 at the Ryan Center on Saturday. Rhode Island opened the contest with a 9–2 run and the Hawks responded with a 14–2 to take a 16–11 of their own. St. Joe’s led at the half 30–27.
In the second half — the Rhode Island defense stopped St. Joe’s for five minutes during a second half stretch. The Rams did pull within one point at 56–55 before the Hawks scored another five points to win the game 61–55. Dasear Haskins scored fourteen points for the Hawks and Derek Sampson added thirteen for St. Joe’s.
St. Joe’s next game is at Davidson on March 4th. With an A10 record of 11–5 — each March game is criticalfor St. Joe’s if they are to gain a bid to the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
