Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq has emphasized that performance, not reputation, is what truly matters in cricket, stating that delivering on match day is the only thing that counts.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Usman Tariq said he does not depend solely on his bowling action or how people perceive it. Instead, he believes consistent results are what define a player’s success.
Discussing conditions in Karachi, he noted that recent pitches have favored slow bowlers. Having previously featured in the Sindh Premier League, Tariq said he has a good understanding of the local conditions, but emphasized that the final strategy will be decided after assessing the pitch on match day.
Tariq made it clear that his main goal in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) is to contribute to his team’s success and help Quetta Gladiators win the title.
Reflecting on his growth as a player, he said that exposure to international cricket has improved his confidence and strengthened his mindset, adding that these benefits also help him perform better in league competitions.
He also highlighted that franchise cricket brings higher expectations, which increases a player’s sense of responsibility.
When asked about targeting specific batters, Usman Tariq said he does not focus on individuals, stressing that every wicket is equally important because each batter presents a different challenge.
Addressing ongoing discussions about his bowling action, Usman Tariq repeated that performance matters more than reputation. He explained that his strategy is to stop batters from playing in their preferred scoring areas and instead force them to follow his plan.
Commenting on modern T20 cricket, Tariq further said the format has become more favorable for batters, making it harder for bowlers to succeed without strong skills and clear strategies.
He added that his bowling approach changes depending on match situations, including reading a batter’s intent, whether to apply pressure through dot balls or encourage risky shots.
On the issue of crowd absence, Tariq said fans are an important part of the league’s atmosphere. He expressed hope that improving regional conditions will allow spectators to return to stadiums soon, noting that the PSL continues to attract strong public interest.
