The two people arrested by the police were identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Mehrajwala village in Jalandhar, and an unnamed 17-year-old juvenile.

Preliminary investigation also revealed that they were procuring illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them to criminal gangs. The recovered weapons were intended to be used for firing and extortion activities in the region, Yadav said.
Acting on intelligence inputs, Punjab Police arrested Ajay Kumar and recovered one pistol from his possession. Further investigation led to the arrest of his 17-year-old accomplice and recovery of four more pistols, said Gaurav Toora, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala.
Further investigations are underway to completely unmask the network, Toora added. Punjab Police has filed an FIR and a criminal case under Section 25 of the Arms Act.
Sunday’s actions came close on the heels of ‘Operation Prahar – 2’, the three-day-long drive by the Aam Aadmi Party government against wanted criminals and gangsters in Punjab.
More than 3,200 people were arrested in Punjab during a 72-hour-long drive from February 8 to February 10, 2026. The police conducted 8,278 raids at locations linked to wanted criminals.
The initiative, an integral part of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government’s flagship ‘War Against Gangsters’ drive, followed the recent completion of ‘Operation Prahaar-1’, during which the police arrested 3,256 individuals and recovered 69 illegal weapons within 72 hours.
