Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the expansion of the provincial laptop scheme to include students enrolled in private universities, marking a significant step toward broader access to digital education.
In a statement issued on the International Day of Education, the chief minister said education is a right, not a privilege, and emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting students across all sectors.
She noted that Punjab has already been providing free laptops to students of public sector universities and has now decided to extend the same facility to private university students.
Under the expanded scheme, private university students who have secured at least 65 percent marks will be eligible to apply for a free laptop. The move aims to promote digital inclusion, enhance learning opportunities, and support academic performance in higher education institutions across the province.
The Punjab government has opened applications for the scheme, allowing eligible students to submit their details online. Students can apply through the official portal at cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk.
