Puducherry draft electoral roll published under SIR, 110 new booths added, 85,000 names removed – Puducherry News

The draft electoral rolls for Puducherry were published on Tuesday as part of the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ lists. As per sources, 110 new polling booths have been added in the Union Territory, while around 85,000 names have been removed from the voters’ list. The total number of voters in Puducherry now stands at 7.64 lakh.

The Election Commission said draft electoral rolls of West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry and Lakshadweep would be published on Tuesday.

In West Bengal, the Election Commission of India identified over 58 lakh voter names for deletion after releasing the draft electoral rolls following the SIR.

The enumeration phase concluded on December 11, with the second phase, covering claims, objections and hearings, set to continue until February 2026. Of the 58,20,898 names flagged, more than 24.16 lakh electors were identified as deceased, while nearly 19.88 lakh were found to have permanently shifted or migrated. Over 12.20 lakh voters were marked missing, and around 1.38 lakh names were identified as duplicate, false or bogus entries.

Last week, the poll panel extended the SIR timeline in five states and one Union Territory following requests from chief electoral officers. The schedules were revised for Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while the schedule for Kerala was revised earlier.
