The Pakistan Super League (PSL) owner, Fawad Sarwar, has secured ownership of a Jamaica-based team in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), beating competition from a prominent Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.
The Hyderabad Kingsmen owner has taken control of the franchise previously known as the Jamaica Tallawahs, which has remained inactive since the 2023 season.
The GMR Group, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals, were widely seen as favorites to land the deal. The group had reportedly engaged in advanced discussions and even attended last year’s CPL final.
Despite that momentum, the agreement ultimately went in favor of Fawad Sarwar and the FKS Group. The Hyderabadi businessman from Houston has been making headlines after purchasing his own PSL team for Rs. 1.75 billion, branding it the Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen.
Jamica, once among the league’s most successful teams, boasts a rich legacy and passionate fan base. It lifted three CPL titles and featured global superstars such as Chris Gayle and Andre Russell during its peak years.
Former owner Kris Persaud returned the team to the league in 2023, citing limited institutional support. He later shifted focus to a new venture, now known as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
With upgrades planned around Sabina Park and renewed administrative backing, stakeholders believe conditions are now favorable for the team’s return.
The move also spells Pakistan and the PSL’s growing influence in international franchise cricket, giving many young Pakistani talent a chance to play in the CPL under the Kingsmen umbrella.
