Proposed before my birth, inaugurated by me: PM slams Congress over Narmada dam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Rajya Sabha, took a swipe at the Congress over its governance record and development pace.

He said the Congress’ style of functioning had been to “delay, obstruct and divert,” adding that the party only understood a “jeep and mule model” of development.

Highlighting the history of the Narmada dam project, Modi said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had envisioned building a dam on the river even before he was born. After Patel’s demise, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone, but the project remained incomplete for decades.

Modi stated that he inaugurated the project only after becoming Prime Minister, using the example to criticise Congress for delays in executing major national infrastructure initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also launched a scathing attack on the Congress, alleging that the grand old party harbours hatred towards Sikhs and has insulted the community. The Prime Minister was referring to Rahul Gandhi’s “traitor” remark targeting Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu.

He also slammed on TMC over illegal infiltration and governance, accusing political opponents of ignoring national security and the future of the country’s youth.

Speaking in the Upper House, Modi said people living under “ineffective governance” were facing an uncertain future, while those in power remained focused only on political gains. He alleged that infiltration was threatening livelihoods, land rights and safety, particularly of tribal communities, and warned that young citizens were being deprived of opportunities.
