A popular long-running Chinese restaurant has reopened following a five-week renovation of their Mawson Lakes venue. Owners are focusing on improving comfort for diners and expanding the food and drinks menu.
Owner of New Century Restaurant Mily said the renovation involved an upgrade for the entire dining area. She said the goal was to make the restaurant feel roomier and for guests to feel more comfortable, and she’s thrilled to announce the renovations have done just that.
Along with upgrades to the restaurant, Mily said drink options and menu offerings had also received an update.
Among the new dishes are crispy whitebait with salted egg yolk, Malaysian-style chilli flavours, lobster tail options and plans to introduce a traditional fried coconut dessert.
Popular favourites remain, including the restaurant’s honey chicken, which continues to be one of its biggest sellers.
She said the dish stands out because of how it is prepared.
“We’re not like the other places, they use a sugar sauce to make the honey sauce, but we use real honey to make the honey chicken,” she said. And the honey chicken isn’t doused in sauce, it remains crispy.
Other popular menu items include coconut prawns served with orange sauce, along with new drink options now being rolled out.
A new coconut avocado smoothie is all the rave in Vietnam right now and New Century Restaurant have hopped at the trend and have introduced it to their menu as well.
Mily describes it as an ice blended coconut flavour underneath with a smooth avocado base on top.
The restaurant reopened last Friday with a soft launch, following its closure for renovations. Mily announced that this is a soft reopening due to some finishing touches being completed in March.
In a move that signals where the restaurant is heading next, Mily revealed a robotic food delivery assistant is on the way, set to roll into service once renovations are fully complete.
The restaurant has been operating for more than 13 years and is run by Mily alongside her aunt Wendy. She said the long-standing support from customers has been one of the most rewarding parts of running the business.
