A development application has been lodged for a lux new Balhannah Wines cellar door and boutique accommodation at 104 Wenzel Road in Balhannah. The plans include six tourist chalets within the estate’s 23.3 hectares of established vineyards. Fore Design has prepared the architectural vision and Flex Planning has delivered the town planning services.
Fore Design said the $4 million project has been designed as a quiet response to the landscape. It will offer refined spaces for tastings and seasonal plates. The cellar door would trade daily from 9am to 5pm with capacity for up to 75 guests. Features include a providore, a private tasting room, a cellar, and a lawn with views of the surrounding area. A multi-purpose space would support exhibitions and creative partnerships.
Six accommodation pods are planned to sit beyond the cellar door. The chalets are positioned to offer a sense of seclusion and beautiful views. The property’s orientation allows Balhannah Wines to settle into the vineyard while capturing the dawn light and wider horizon.
Speaking about the project, Scott Robinson, Design Director at Fore Design said, “Our aim was to create a place that feels inevitable — something that grows out of the vineyard rather than arriving on top of it.”
“The cellar door and chalets are intentionally calm, allowing the landscape to do most of the talking. We wanted visitors to feel that they’re stepping into the quiet heartbeat of Balhannah, not simply visiting another venue.”
The development aims to strengthen the region’s tourism offering. It looks to create a high quality destination that will support longer stays, local businesses, and the wider economy.
