Atkins Farm in the Adelaide Hills is officially back this January, as they open for another spectacular sunflower season, where you can pick some of the most beautiful blooms you’ve ever seen.
Atkins Farm has shared on their website about the upcoming sunflower season, saying: “We look forward to seeing you all in January 2026 when we will reopen.”
Located in Meadows, just 50 minutes from Adelaide, Atkins Farm has been around for decades and has a colourful history dating back to the 1920s. The sunflower season began in 2022 when the farm decided to plant a field of sunflowers, inspired by their passion for gardening and the stunning surroundings.
The idea quickly became a local sensation, with South Aussies heading to the farm to handpick sunflowers and capture stunning photos among the golden blooms. Now, every summer, Atkins Farm continues to invite visitors to enjoy this magical experience.
Each sunflower session lasts 50 minutes, with strictly timed slots so that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the field. This process allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience without feeling rushed, while also helping the farm to accommodate as many guests as possible.
While other farms in South Australia have had to skip sunflower picking in previous years due to an unusually dry season, Atkins Farm has fortunately been able to push through. 2024 proved a challenging season for others like Barns of Freeling, who share that sunflowers need wet soil to sprout and grow, and with only 180mm of rainfall in 2024, it was a challenging season for them.
