Perth have pinched three Ninja A-League points off Wellington Phoenix at Sam Kerr Football Centre, winning 1-0 thanks to Susan Phonsongkham’s 75th minute corner.
There remains some conjecture whether Phonsongkham will be awarded the goal or if it will be credited to Bronte Trew, who definitely touched the whipped corner last at the back post.
However, the ball may have already crossed the line for a rare Olimpico goal.
Regardless of the official scorer, the goal meant Perth won their first game at home in this Ninja A-League season, and will leave Wellington wondering what might have been.
Perth snapping their four game losing streak had looked a fanciful prospect for the first 74 minutes of the game, with the Phoenix having been the much stronger and slicker side.
Wellington’s Nepali striker Sabitra Bhandari threatened to break the game open all night, with Grace Jale and Manaia Elliott also causing plenty of problems for the Perth defence.
But it was Phonsongkham – introduced to the action on the hour mark – who ultimately decided the destination of the Ninja A-League points and lifted the Glory off the bottom of the table at the same time.
